This week in the Stone Focus we are taking a closer look at some beautiful onyx surfaces we have in stock now at MGLW.
Onyx is a stone found all across the world, from Australia to Madagascar, Brazil, China, India and even here in the UK. Being one of the most decorative natural surfaces, it can be used to create fantastic, translucent surfaces due to the range and mixture of colours that occur in the stone.
A typical example of a light and creamy onyx, the Crema is a delightful choice of stone. Being an onyx, the translucent properties of the stone mean that any light that hits it causes it to shine brighter, really picking out the different shades and tones in the stone.
Our stock of this beautiful onyx is roughly 3m x 1m x 1.6cm. Please get in touch if you want to hear more.
Our new block of Turkish Cielo onyx is a fantastic mix of green-blue and brown. Again, as with other onyx slabs, this material would look even more impressive with a back light and lit up to display all the intricacies of the stone.
Used throughout history for delicate jewellery and decorative pieces, onyx can be found with various amounts of iron deposits within it, which often makes for the different shades of brown and red.
If you are interested in hearing more, our current stock of this stone is approximately 2.5m x 1.5m x 2cm. Do get in touch.
Wait, marble? Yes, this is not an onyx but is an example of a marble surface that shares some of the characteristics of an onyx. Some marble, such as the Crema Evora, can also be backlit effectively and used in exciting ways to create very beautiful and decorative designs.
If not opting for an onyx, these types of marble surfaces can be a great alternative. With a bright white and slightly ivory coloured aesthetic, the Royal White looks impressive in normal lighting conditions too, with the potential to brighten smaller spaces with its light and reflective surface.
Currently, our block of Royal White is approximately 3m x 1.5m x 2cm. Drop us a message or give us a call to find out more.
