As rock forms in nature, the variation in minerals present, as well as other chemical characteristics, determine the type of stone produced and the colourations achieved. There are so many different varieties, some more extravagant and exotic than others, which makes this medium such a rich source of inspiration for creative minds.
This week we take a look at three very decorative stone surfaces, all formed under different conditions but with equally dramatic outcomes.
An Italian stone from the Bergamo area, North-East of Milan, the Arabescato Orobico is an intensely striking marble. The very strong, decorative patterning can create an extremely effective feature piece. The mixture of greys, blacks, browns and lighter creams contrast each other fantastically and can’t fail to draw the eye.
Often used in a bookmatch in order to create a dramatic feature wall, this material can also be used for flooring, walls and tabletops.
At the time of writing we have limited stock in both 30mm and 20mm. Get in touch soon to avoid missing out.
The Patagonia is an extremely exotic, Brazilian stone. In a fairly unique example of composition, it contains properties of both a granite, as well as of a quartzite. This results in a powerful looking blend of features in the stone itself.
Containing properties of a granite means it is a very strong stone and thus a perfect fit for large surfaces such as tabletops and kitchen islands. In addition, Patagonia would make a great choice for bathrooms and flooring.
We are proud of the blocks of this material we hold here, as it is notoriously difficult to quarry with balanced patterning. You can be assured we only select the very best to stock here at MGLW.
Currently we have stock in both 20mm and 30mm thicknesses. Please do contact us to find out more.
Rafaello is a beautiful dolomite, again from Brazil.
The greys in this stone vary from one end of the spectrum to the other, creating a stunning contrast between the light and dark colouring produced. It can be used effectively for worktops as well as other designs, being a versatile looking material.
MGLW were one of the first to bring this stone to the UK market, around a year ago. We continue to be huge fans of it ourselves and are pleased that you appear to agree with us, as the reaction has been extremely positive.
At the time of writing, we have stock of Rafaello in a 20mm as well as 30mm thickness. Simply click here or give us a call to hear more.
