When replacing kitchen worktops or looking at installing a new kitchen entirely, there are a plethora of options available and it can be confusing which you should choose. With technology advancing and new and improved surfaces being released, there are a lot of factors used to try and justify the best surface. This along with proven pros and cons of tried and tested surfaces can cause a selection headache.
In order to help you decide which is best for you we have compiled a few ideas, along with some examples, for different stone you can use in the kitchen and why can be a good choice.
We stock many different varieties of Granite that are suitable for use in the kitchen, to achieve this fantastic monochrome, black and white look you should consider the Indian Black. An example of the different finishes available can be seen here too, to give you an idea of the effects that can be achieved.
Another great use of granite can be seen here, with this Astoria Cream. You can see it has been utilized as a backsplash, on the wall to match up with the island. Here the surface is thicker and the island also includes a circular feature, designed to give it more space and storage. Something important to consider!
An example of Colonial White being used here too, as a traditional worktop and full sink surround.
Another great choice for the kitchen and one that never fails to look spectacular, we provide hundreds of varieties of marble. Here Carrara has been used to create a classic white kitchen, again providing the work surface as well as the backsplash.
Care and maintenance of the surface is a little more important with marble, so you should always get advice from your mason on how best to maintain the stone after installation. Staining and etching can affect the surface if not properly cared for. However, with some care and attention you can keep these surfaces looking at their best.
If you have any reservations about the use of marble please do give us a call and we would be more than happy to discuss your project with you. The above shows that Blackwood marble has been used to form an amazing bar top, proving that you can use marble to achieve a high-end look in both domestic and commercial settings, whilst keeping the surface itself looking great.
Quartz surfaces now make up a large proportion of kitchen worktops across the world, with huge growth seen in this area over the last few years. This is no coincidence of course. With some great benefits to it, such as being more scratch resistant and simple to clean, this engineered stone is a great choice and is available in a wide range of colours.
Below you can see some beautiful, pure white composite quartz surfaces. Resins are used to bind this stone, so care should be taken with high temperatures, however greater uniformity in the stone is a feature of quartz. Colouring is the result of pigmentation added in the manufacturing process and can enable the creation of some fantastic, modern, minimalist environments.
There are of course more options to consider and many different varieties to see. We stock over 400 unique varieties of stone at MGLW, which you can browse online here or give us a call to discuss the type of look you are going for. We are happy to suggest a type of stone to match the colour or pattern you are thinking of.
